Tips for a better night’s sleep…
We all lead such busy lives and often we don’t take time to stop, relax and have a little time for ourselves. This can mean that when we try to go to sleep at night we often are still in that heightened sense of awareness and action. We may feel anxious and overwhelmed with a lot of things running around our heads and we just can’t switch off.
We are bombarded by social media, the TV and streams of information so it’s not surprising that when we try to go to sleep we are fighting a losing battle.
Joe Pilates said ” Such a body freed from nervous tension and over-fatigue is the ideal shelter provided by nature for housing a well balanced mind that is fully capable of successfully meeting all of the complex problems of modern living.”
So focusing on breathing can be an excellent way to help you calm down and to ensure a restful night of sleep.
Two steps to helping you sleep better:
1) As you lie in bed, breathe in through your nose and feel your stomach rise and your ribs expand. When your breathe out, do so through your mouth and try to imagine you are letting go of everything. Take as deep a breath in as possible and when you breathe out get rid of every bit of air in your lungs.
2) As you breathe in feel a sense of lightness travel through your body, as you breath out feel the bones grow heavy, while you sink into the bed.
Sweet dreams and I’ll see you next week in our classes.
